When a page needs to be a picture
PDFs don't embed in most places — chat apps preview them poorly, slide decks want images, social posts and web pages want JPG/PNG, and some upload forms flatly refuse PDFs. Rendering pages to images is the bridge, and doing it locally matters because the documents people convert this way are precisely the sensitive kind.
Each page renders on a white background (PDF pages are white-backed by convention) at 2× the page's nominal size — an A4 page becomes roughly 1190×1684 px — then encodes as JPG at your chosen quality. Multi-page files download as one ZIP with zero-padded numbering.
| Property | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Engine | pdf.js (Mozilla, Apache-2.0) — Firefox's PDF renderer |
| Scale | 2× nominal page size (A4 → ~1190×1684 px) |
| Background | White (matches how viewers display pages) |
| Output | 1 page → direct JPG · multi-page → numbered ZIP |
| Quality | Slider-controlled JPG encoding (default 92) |
When NOT to convert PDF to JPG
- You need the text — a JPG has no selectable/searchable text. If the goal is copying content, open the PDF itself.
- Print quality — 2× screen rendering is great on displays; for 300-DPI print, export from the source application instead.
- Re-assembling into a PDF later — round-tripping through JPG rasterizes everything; keep the original.
