Why one-file-per-page is the useful split
The real-world reasons to split are extraction jobs: e-signing one page of a lease, submitting a single certificate from a scanned bundle, or e-mailing page 3 without sharing pages 1–14. One file per page — with the original name plus a zero-padded page number — covers every one of those with a quick pick from the ZIP. For ranges, delete what you don't need after extraction, or merge a subset back together: split + merge composes into any rearrangement.
| Property | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Output | One single-page PDF per page, in one ZIP |
| Naming | name-page001.pdf … zero-padded, sorts correctly |
| Quality | Lossless object copy |
| Limits | 100 MB per file · 500 pages |
When NOT to split
- To make a file smaller for e-mail — splitting divides pages, not bytes; a 40 MB scan splits into heavy pages. Compression is a different job.
- Single-page PDFs — nothing to do; the tool says so instead of producing a pointless ZIP.
- Password-protected files — decrypt first in the native app.
